Day 6: three tickets to Final 8 still up for grabs

Good Angels Košice, TTT Rīga, Pszczolka AZS UMCS Lublin, Basket 90 Gdynia and Dynamo Moscow have secured 5 out of 8 trips to the Final Eight. All higher ranked teams won on Friday, January 6.

Group C: Liepāja, Latvia

Dominika Owczarzak made a reverse layup 17,9 seconds before the end of regulation to extend Pszczolka AZS UMCS Lublin lead up to five points, 67-62. Istanbul Universitesi power forward Aija Putniņa replied with two points but it wasn`t enough to tie the game, 67-64.

In the game which featured six lead changes Istanbul University led by as much as eight points, 44-52. Lublin went on a 23-10 run to turn the tables. Kateryna Dorogobuzova scored 18 points for the winners. Tess Madgen and Uju Ugoka scored 16 and 13 points respectively.

TTT Riga opened the game with a 11-0 run and never looked back to beat Astana Tigers, 99-46. Five Riga players scored in double figures, including Sydney Carter, Aishah Sutherland, Digna Strautmane, Anda Eibele and Ieva Kūlīte.

Sindija Kudule stepped on the floor in TTT shirt one day after her 20th birthday.

Vega 1/Liepāja put up a fight against Slovakian giants Good Angels Kosice. The hosts stayed in contention for 30 minutes but run out of steam in the final 10 minutes, 58-76. Romana Stehlikova led the Angels with 17 points and five rebounds.

Group D: Vilnius, Lithuania

Best Lithuanian basketball player of 2017 – Kamile Nacickaite – scored 24 points, including five hits from the three point line, to lead Dynamo Moscow (5-1) past Tsmoki Minsk in a 95-61 win. Alexandra Caitlin Bunton had 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Blue-whites dominated in the first and fourth quarter, 32-16 and 24-8. Nacickaite singlehandedly outscored the Belarus Cup winners from the deep (three point shots 10/20 vs 4/11).

Avangard Kiev players came out in fighting mode and left victorious after the first twenty minutes of battle against Basket 90 Gdynia, 35-37. All leaders of the Polish club worked hard in the remaining part of the game for a 74-63 success.

Jelena Skerovic flirted with a triple-double, combining 18 points, six rebounds and nine assists. Renee Montgomery added 15 points, while Carolyn Swords and Monika Grigalauskyte scored 14 and 12 points respectively.

Poor shooting from downtown (three pointers 2/16), more turnovers (19-15) and less steals (8-13) ruined Kibirkštis Vilnius chances to overcome Horizont Minsk. Belarus champions, thanks to relentless defense, bettered the hosts, 56-49.

Yuliya Rytsikava had a huge game, finishing it with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals. French point guard Najat Ouardad debuted with five points, six rebounds and three steals.
