Good Angels shock TTT with buzzer-beater by Darxia Morris

Slovak legend Zuzana Žirkova tied the score with 83 seconds left, while the last second against-the-odds three pointer buzzerbeater by Darxia Morris gave the Good Angels Košice a 74-71 win over the Final Four hosts TTT on Sunday, March 18 at the Daugava sports hall in Riga, Latvia.

Morris had just one field goal attempt during the final 10 minutes. It came after the last timeout with 1,0 second left on the clock. Košice guard received the ball, turned around, jumped and released the ball. Swish!

UCLA graduate Darxia Morris finished the game with 18 points on 6-of-10 shoting. She added two rebounds, three assists and one steal for a efficiency rating of 16.

Zuzana Žirkova remained faithful to herself and converted a game-tying shot at 71. Košice captain had 11 points, three rebounds and four assists. Žirkova earned the Most Valuable Player award.

“Good Angels” front court players Anna Jurčenkova and Devereaux Peters added 13 points each. Barbora Balintova scored 7 of her 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Ally Mallot led all scorers with 23 points. TTT power forward connected 8-of-11 shots from the field, including a game high four three-pointers.

Gunta Baško had 16 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and 10 forced fouls. Shey Peddy finished with 12 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Captain Ieva Krastiņa scored 10 points, while Kate Krēsliņa added eight points.

Key stats

Good Angels scored more points in the paint (30-14, attempts 15/24 vs 7/23). Jurčenkova hit 75% of her shots inside the three point line (6/8).

The Rigans excelled in transition game, scoring a lot of points in fast breaks (7-16).

TTT players were also better in three points accuracy (6/15 vs 10/23). Except the final 83 seconds.

  • Two teams – Good Angels Košice and TTT Rīga – finished the regular season undefeated.
