Nataliya Trafimava has become heart and soul of the Belarus National team. This summer she guided her team to another EuroBasket Women semifinal, while earning ticket to the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in June 2016.
She is up to new challenges. Trafimava took over as head coach of Horizont Minsk recently. She had her baptism of fire in Riga, becoming her team`s best rebounder in the process.
Are you satisfied with the first stage, except the team`s win and loss record?
The results could be better. We were close to the win in all games. It`s hard to play when you have only 10 players and not enough front court players. It was the most difficult in the last day. We will continue to work hard to get better.
How attractive is the idea about the Eastern European Women`s basketball league?
This is a very interesting competition for Horizont as we don`t play in the FIBA EuroCup anymore. EEWBL is our only international tournament we compete in and the league is very important for us. We have expressed our interest to play in the EEWBL and we are happy to be among eight starting teams.
How many games you play in the Belarus championship?
We play 16 games in the regular season (October 21 – January 23, 2016). There are not many teams playing. This is another reason to participate in the EEWBL. It`s good for us.
Your overall impressions about the organization level?
Everything is well organized and on time. No complaints. It`s almost like EuroBasket Women from the organization`s point of view.
What are your wishes for the league?
Less injuries for my players and good games.
